I got to use my kitchen!!

Yep. I baked bread...rosemary, garlic & olive oil.... (well, I used my breadmaker...it was after all around 90º outside....) and I made a delish luncheon for Bug and I made lattes...which I forgot to take a pic of....

but I got to use all of my favorite kitchen tools...my santoku knife and my garlic press and my wok!

In the pan:

Eggnoodles (leftover from the previous day....cooked in beef bullion (yep, he'll eat that) and tossed with some peas....made a nice fast dinner for the Bug), olive oil infused with pressed garlic, sundried tomatoes, baby bella mushrooms, zuchini and yellow squash with a splash of white cooking wine with a hint of lemon.

mm mmm good!

Had a new realtor come out and check out the place and there is now a new for sale sign up....

and hopefully by the end of today the pics will be in the MLS.....so those that haven't seen the place in a while can go peek at what's doin'

other than that...not a whole lot is new.....

we had a great relaxing weekend other than the whole mouse thing....yep. I caught and disposed of a mouse. all by myself.

ok....so I screamed and called my dad as to what to do with the thing after I trapped him beneath a cup (yes I threw it away after disposing of said mouse)....and yeah...so when Bug came in I did tell him the whole story and end with "this is why I need a husband..." but still! I did it! I conquered the mouse before it conquered my freshly laundered hand towels and the little electric cords all over....

OOH!!

Yep. God is SO good! yet another terrific round of verses on my calendars today:

Open up before God, keep nothing back; he'll do whatever needs to be done: He'll validate your life in the clear light of day and stamp you with approval at high noon. Quiet down before God, be prayerful before him Psalm 37:5-7 Message Version

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 NIV

Mmmm now that is beyond Chicken Soup for the Soul...I dare call that cheesecake for the soul!!!!

and now for your amusement....
a conversation that took place between Daddy and Eye this morning:

Eye: Can you write me a note and get me out of work today? I wanna go home and play!
Daddy: for both of us...
Eye: ok! I'll write one for you and you write one for me!
Eye: Mr. [DAD's BOSS] Sir, Please allow my daddy to stay home from work today as he is in desperate need of play time. Sincerely, Lil' Miss Jami Leigh.
Daddy: Mr. Boss Man, Please allow my Pumkin to stay home and have a Play Day... She needs one desperately bad. Sincerely, The Father
Daddy: Think it will work?
Eye: I hope so!!

Have I mentioned that I love my daddy?
And I get to see him this weekend!! (and anyone else that feels like venturing toward that little village where my homestead is....)
OH! and PRAY - new realtor checking out the house Saturday at 10:30 a.m......Pray that I have wisdom and discernment about whether I should sign with them, and wisdom about pricing and all of those things that go along with it.
Thank you!
and May God Bless Your Socks Off Today!!!!

and welcome to monday....

So I pull into the parking ramp like I always do. I pull in to my space, turn off my headlights and ignition...but the headlights stay on. so I pull the key...nothing. turn the car on and off again....lights are still on.
bright light indicator light thingy on the dash is on...so I try turning the brights on and off...nope.
so here I sit, upset and frazzled and in tears because my lights are on and my car is off and I'm at work until 5 and the maintenance guy couldn't get my battery disconnected.
*sigh*
I'm pretty much at my wits end with things lately anyway...and then this...ugh.
so if you happen to pop by and read this today...please pray for me...
thanks
Eye

oh yeah...

My wrist is much better thanks....doc said it healed up nice, to splint it for anything strenuous, but other than that take it a little easy while the rest of the bruising heals up and then I'm good....

looks much better, huh?

hmm...wonder if there's a volleyball game this weekend.....
JUST KIDDING!! I'm sticking to soccer!!

Saturday!!

It's Saturday!
Ok. that took all of my energy....sad isn't it....
what's new you ask?
well, a new realtor is checking out the ole' homestead next weekend...pray that they are successful with a quick sell!
I'm seeking a new mode of transportation as my current one seems to need repairs just a little bit too regularly....um....work is crazy...took on some new responsibilities....Bug is wonderful...he's got a little surprise planned for me this afternoon so I'm wicked excited....if he takes pics, I'll post them...and he said he felt another blog brewing...but....alas.....seen it I have not.....ooh...Yoda....
yeah, maybe just a little random today...but it's a random kind of day...it's nice and sunny and hot and I'm running on very little sleep and for some reason just in a typing kind of mood so here I sit, hopefully entertaining you more than boring you...
determining whether I'm moving back to Cuba for a bit....which could be great or suck, depending upon the day I'm thinking...although, I do miss my house....it's rather nice having all of your belongings in one place.....oh well. God's plan is still going...I have yet to see him get bored and leave me drowning...don't think he's about to start.
let's see...what else?
well, we had a great time at the family reunion other than Bug's sister getting hurt (she's ok now).
I love his side of the family (not that I don't love mine) but his Uncle who's the pastor is just hilarious!
He loves to tell stories...like Rindercella and her sisty step uglers...the pee little thrigs.....beeping sleauty....he's also the one that will be marrying us :-D
We rented a delightful car to take with us....and I've decided if God blesses my finances to that point - I want a new Dodge Caliber....pretty ;-D
moving right along....
I think I'm out of updates.
are you bored?
are you wishing I had more to say?
well....ask a question and I shall create a post to answer!

words...inspiration....healing balm....

I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him. 2 Timothy 1:12 NLT

Sweet Jesus, I'm waiting. I'm here on bended knee.
I need you, to heal me. Please come and set me free.
Reaching out, I touch the nails...see your side...it was bleeding for me!
My words...only fail...'till I cry...with my whole being...
Forgive me. "The Confession" Dave Miller

My Lord and Savior,
you see my tears, you feel my pains, you know my greatest joys and victories...you were there for every moment, you never leave me. Your word does not return to you void.
Bless this day and prove yourself strong and faithful over again. I love you Father, and I know the plans you have for me are to prosper and not harm me and I thank you for them.
Grow me this day, stretch me and mold me....make me the woman you designed me to be. Remind me of the words you've given me and sustain me. I praise your wonderful Name forever,
Amen

This has been a trying month for me...somewhat of a roller coaster....
Last night I had the privilege of sitting under Pastor James McDonald. He taught from Acts 12...about how God is in control even when....
and the two that stuck with me were: when my faith is weak and when it looks like my enemy is winning....it was kind of funny....he asked if we are ever like "GOD!! Get him!!!" and as I laughed I admitted, yes....I do that...."but God!! why are you letting them be blessed! they are BAD!!" "But God!! I pray, I tithe, I read my Bible! Why haven't you answered each and every one of my demands!!"

Could be because I didn't leave them on the altar when I walked away...maybe it's because I would love to think I trusted him enough....but at the heart of it...I held on to my backup plans....

So today, my task/mission/quest...thing.... is to die to self, to take my hands off..."look God, no hands!" and let him work 'cause let's face it....He's a lot better at this stuff than I am.

I close with this:

Put God in charge of your work, then what you've planned will take place....We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live." Proverbs 16:3,9 MSG

Yes, it hurts.

so....there I was semi-minding my own business at the church picnic Saturday....when I was viciously attacked by a volleyball!!!!!

Right wrist:

Left arm...mean ole ball!!

Fortunately there was a nurse at the picnic...so I asked if I was ok to just go home or did I need to go to the ER...he said to ice it over night, motrin every 4 hours, and keep it up...then we'd see what it looked like the next day:

So we decided to go get an x-ray.....not broken but sprained.....so a regimine of RICE and this is how it looked yesterday:

Bug says no more volleyball for me...

It's Monday already?

where on earth did our relaxing weekend go????
in two weeks we're headed for Bug's family reunion....nice four day weekend....I'd like a 30 day weekend.....
so things are good....about the same....but I figured I'd stop by and say hello.

update?

Until I remember to email myself the pics I took with my phone, you'll have to use your imagination.....

So Bug tried sushi. It was amusing. Those that know my other half know that adventure and food do not belong in the same paragraph unless there is also a "no freakin' way" involved....so this amused me greatly.

Not much else is new.....I need to get pics of the changing environment around the little white house that needs a new owner.....doing my best to not get discouraged there....I know, old song, old words...I'm moving on....

Work is about the same. Blo is HOT and muggy and for some reason it's made me pensive and all I really want to do is go home and curl up and read or something.

Although a wonderful friend from the days of yore....(sidebar....I am SO loving that all the friends from the days of yore are back!) anyway.....this wonderful friend has shown me the wonder that is The West Wing ....amazing show. So I've seen seasons 1 and 2 and now I need to grab some lunch with her to a) lament the things I didn't like in the seasons 2) catch up on what's been shaking since I saw her last week and d) get season 3 (and she's probably reading this laughing at me.....p.s. you can comment without creating an account should you desire to publicly show your amusement at my silliness....just do the anonymous or other category or whatever it's called :-D)

but yeah. there's your "update" of sorts....yes. I'm a boring sort today.
love me anyway.

Yes. We are easily amused and Dollar Stores ROCK

First 'cause I forgot to post before.....um...we're not quite sure what he was thinking....

And now for the dollar store adventure.....

It says "Bride to Be"....gotta love dollar store wedding supplies!!

Veil Schmeil.....this is a much classier look, right?

No....YOU eat it!

Apparently that was not the thing to say....

But fortunately....we have a WARRIOR in our midst!!

This concludes today's look at a couple who have entirely too much fun in stores where EVERYTHING'S A DOLLAR!! (except the things that aren't....)

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

My turn! My turn!

Ok, so I've seen many posts of yumminess....here is mine!

Yesterday was my future SIL's birthday...she's got a major lovin' for my fettuccine portabella....so I promised it to her for dinner.....

MORE MUSHROOMS! We need many more mushrooms...and some marsala!
here's where we start by giving some red onions a little sweat time in some olive oil...then add some garlic, spices and once we have a good sweat going...drop in some marsala.....then come the SHROOMS!!!

and here it is all done up nice and purty like....pasta, alfredo, many shrooms.....

and what good is pasta without some bread....with a mixture of minced and roasted garlic, Italian herbs and spices and some sundried tomato and basil mozzarella on top?

So Bug serves up the bread....

and FSIL says (and I really do quote)

"If I were wearing jeans, they'd be unbuttoned"

I'd say it was a successful dinner :-D

Happy Birthday TawnTawn!

coming soon: Our trip to the dollar store!!! (you won't want to miss it....)

hmmm

The Lord will guide you always...You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Isaiah 58:11 NIV

I needed that this morning....there's a rather large decision in front of Bug and Eye.....(sorry, couldn't resist) and I've been seeking God's guidance....and this morning....I thought I heard Him speak...and I got frustrated because I wasn't sure...."God, is this You? or is it me wanting it to be You?"

Ever have a day like that? where you think just maybe you're headed in the right direction....but then you wonder if you're pushing God's hand? but then again....it's not quite in your comfort zone, so it's got to be God, right?

hmm...things to ponder on a muggy Tuesday morning....

Not my will, but Thine be done, oh Lord.

well....the couple decided against purchasing my house....
so...I'm going to be looking for a realtor this week...
I'm ok, I guess. I have to be. I know God has a plan, and I knew there was a possibility that this wasn't going to pan out and...well, it has to happen eventually....
so here we go....
I guess my prayer request is this: peace, strength, wisdom and God's will for this house.
Thanks y'all....

weekend...

so...it was a busy busy weekend....here's the short version....

Friday night I did some girly touches around the house because I had gotten a call Thursday - a friend of my N brother's had heard about the house, wondered if it was going up for sale anytime soon and how much do I want...

So I called them back and set an appointment for them to come see the place on Saturday...they seemed to really like it but said they needed some time to talk...so we'll see.

Army bro coudn't make it out...pray that the things that prevented him from making the trip are resolved....

Saturday afternoon Mom, my K sister, two uncles, my J brother and a grandfather came to the house to move the fence (it's now bordering the land between the fire hall and my house so the backyard is now HUGE and paint shutters (now hunter green) and powerwash the siding...all looks incredible!

Sunday afternoon...Bug goes to tie my hanging muffler back up until I have time to get it fixed...we realize there is no tying it up...so MY Bug replaced it!! I'm so proud of him!! Suffice it to say he's usually not the mechanical type...but he did a wonderful job and I'm happier than a pig in slop!

see! there he is!! (yes, tilt your head.)

*contented sigh*

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint ~ Jeremiah 31:25

Car goes in for brakes tomorrow....Army bro is in town next weekend...two weeks after that NJ for a wedding....
the busy season is upon us....so breathe deep and press on and remember that the Joy of the Lord IS our strength!!

We can do this, right?

Happy Dance Anyone?

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy. Job :21 NIV

I'll take it!

This morning, as I enjoy an ever healthy breakfast of a twinkie and bottle of water, I'm finding joy in the little things...It was 73º when I left this morning....twinkies taste really good ya know?

Bug and I (or eye if you really prefer) are in the midst of some huge decision making....we're seeking God's will and earnestly looking for clear answers....too bad God doesn't deal in neon billboards with our names on them....but still...it's pretty cool that the Creator of the universe - the one who knit it all together....he cares about what we do enough to guide us.

Last night I babysat - a nearly three year old and a 6 week old. As I fed that tiny baby his bottle I looked at him and agreed with Bug for the millionth time - How can you look at a baby and NOT believe in God? The intricate nature of a human being, knit together....it's amazing.

I felt the same way the first time I saw my heart on an echo cardiogram....something that intricate, that finely designed, and people can DOUBT GOD? dude....

But I digress...anyway...as I was holding the baby and talking to the toddler, I was reminded again of how great our God is - his attention to detail, his thoughts put into everything...and my heart is filled with praise.

So today, on this lovely Friday....Make a joyful noise and sing to your Heavenly Father - He WILL yet fill our mouths will laughter!!

a throwback to HA chapel days....
Do you not know, have you not heard? the Lord is the everlasting God the creator of the ends of the earth, he will not grow tired and weary...and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Hallelujah, hallelujah!

Day on the Farm

So we had a pretty great weekend...saw lots of familiar faces that we haven't seen in a while...and it was wonderful! learned a new trick....emailing pics from my phone to me...
so here's a selection from our trip out to my dad's sheep farm (Lighthouse Farms....link coming soon!)

Dad and TadBit and LittleBit

Bug with LittleBit
Bug and Eye staring lovingly into each other's eyes *sigh* yep. we're cute and sickeningly in love...isn't it grand??!

TadBit decides the banana oil on my leg is tasty stuff....

More pics coming when I finish emailing them to myself :-)

So...the weekend recap....
Friday:
that was the day I discovered my car had been desecrated, so it was a less than stellar day, headache all day, drove home....
Saturday:
Got up, trip to town, rush home and get ready for a friend's wedding...off to the wedding...it was nice, outdoor reception which would have been even more beautiful had the rain not made it cold...but it was good anyway...ooh and her cake! Bottom layer - chocolate with peanut butter filling, next layer - pumpkin with pumpkin cream cheese filling, top layer - vanilla with vanilla filling. Let me just say it was MUCH tasty baboon!!
Then we headed home, ordered some fried stuff and watched a movie....
Sunday:
We were supposed to meet mom at the cemetery at 1...ended up being more like 2:30-3ish....
then we headed to see Mrs. G and E and ooh that was awesome..... SO good to see old friends and hug them in person!
Then of course, since we were in that particular town we could simply NOT go home without a few breadsticks....plus...well...Bug was hungry :-)

Monday:
SLEPT IN!! I did not get out of bed until 9:00 a.m.!!!!
Cookout at dad's then the delightful trip back...ugh I hate that drive...

and here we are on Tuesday and back to the grind....

will you leave it on the desk?

my friend Wendie posted this on her myspace. it made me cry.

DON'T LEAVE IT ON THE DESK

There was a certain Professor of Religion named Dr Christianson, a studious man who taught at a small college in the Western United States. Dr. Christianson taught the required survey course in Christianity at this particular institution.
Every student was required to take this course hisfreshman year, regardless of his or her major. Although Dr. Christianson tried hard to communicate the essence of the gospel in his class, he found that most of his students looked upon thecourse as nothing but required drudgery. Despite his best efforts, most students refused to take Christianity seriously. This year, Dr. Christianson had a special student named Steve.
Steve was only a freshman, but was studying with the intent of going onto seminary for the ministry. Steve was popular, he was well liked, and he was an imposing physical specimen. He was now the starting center on the schoolfootball team, and was the best student in the professor's class.
One day, Dr. Christianson asked Steve to stay after class so he could talk with him. "How many push-ups can you do?" Steve said, "I do about 200 every night." "200? That's pretty good, Steve," Dr. Christianson said. "Do you think you could do 300?"Steve replied, "I don't know.... I've never done 300at a time.""Do you think you could?" again asked Dr. Christianson."Well, I can try," said Steve."Can you do 300 in sets of 10? I have a class project in mind and I need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work. Can you do it? I need you to tell me you can do it," said the professor.
Steve said, "Well... I think I can...yeah, I can do it"Dr. Christianson said, "Good! I need you to do this on Friday. Let me explain what I have in mind."Friday came and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the room.
When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of donuts. No, these weren't the normal kinds of donuts, they were the extra fancy BIG kind, with cream centers and frosting swirls. Everyone was pretty excited it was Friday, the last class of the day, and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in Dr. Christianson's class.
Dr. Christianson went to the first girl in the first row and asked, "Cynthia, do you want to have one of these donuts?"Cynthia said, "Yes."
Dr. Christianson then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Cynthia can have a donut?""Sure." Steve jumped down from his desk to do a quick ten.
Then Steve again sat in his desk. Dr. Christianson put a donut on Cynthia's desk.
Dr. Christianson then went to Joe, the next person, and asked, "Joe, do you want a donut?"Joe said, "Yes." Dr. Christianson asked, "Steve would you do ten push-ups so Joe can have a donut?"
Steve did ten push-ups, Joe got a donut.
And so it went, down the first aisle, Steve did ten push-ups for every person before they got their donut.Walking down the second aisle, Dr. Christianson came to Scott.
Scott was on the basketball team, and in as good condition as Steve. He was very popular and never lacking for female companionship.
When the professor asked, "Scott do you want a donut?" Scott's reply was, "Well, can I do my own push-ups?"Dr. Christianson said, "No, Steve has to do them."
Then Scott said, "Well, I don't want one then."Dr. Christianson shrugged and then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Scott can have a donut he doesn't want?"
With perfect obedience Steve started to do ten push-ups. Scott said, "HEY! I said I didn't want one!"
Dr. Christianson said, "Look! this is my classroom, my class, my desks, and these are my donuts. Just leave it on the desk if you don't want it."
And he put a donut on Scott's desk. Now by this time, Steve had begun to slow down a little. He just stayed on the floor between sets because it took too much effort to be getting up and down . You could start to see a little perspiration coming out around his brow.Dr. Christianson started down the third row.
Now the students were beginning to get a little angry. Dr. Christianson asked Jenny, "Jenny, do you want a donut?"
Sternly, Jenny said, "No."Then Dr. Christianson asked Steve, "Steve, would you do ten more push-ups so Jenny can have a donut that she doesn't want?"
Steve did ten....Jenny got a donut.
By now, a growing sense of uneasiness filled the room. The students were beginning to say "No" and there were all these uneaten donuts on the desks. Steve also had to really put forth a lot of extra effort to get these push-ups done for each donut.
There began to be a small pool ofsweat on the floor beneath his face, his arms and brow were beginning to get red because of the physical effort involved.
Dr. Christianson asked Robert, who was the most vocal unbeliever in the class, to watch Steve do each push up to make sure he did the full ten push-ups in a set because he couldn't bear to watch all of Steve's work for all of those uneaten donuts.
He sent Robert over to where Steve was so Robert could count the set and watch Steve closely.
Dr. Christianson started down the fourth row. During his class, however, some students from other classes had wandered in and sat down on the steps along the radiators that ran down the sides of the room.
When the professor realized this, he did a quick count and saw that nowthere were 34students in the room.
He started to worry if Steve would be able to make it.
Dr. Christianson went on to the next person and the next and the next. Near the end of that row, Steve was really having a rough time.
He was taking a lot more time to complete each set.
Steve asked Dr Christianson, "Do I have to make my nose touch on each one?"Dr. Christianson thought for a moment, "Well, they're your push-ups. You are in charge now. You can do them any way that you want."
And Dr. Christianson went on.A few moments later, Jason, a recent transfer student, came to the room and was about to come in when all the students yelled in one voice, "NO! Don't come in! Stay out!"
Jason didn't know what was going on.
Steve picked up his head and said, "No, let him come."
Professor Christianson said, "You realize that if Jason comes in you will have to do ten push-ups for him?"
Steve said, "Yes, let him come in. Give him a donut"
Dr. Christianson said, "Okay, Steve, I'll let you get Jason's out of the way right now. Jason, do you want a donut?"J
ason, new to the room, hardly knew what was going on. "Yes," he said, "give me a donut."
"Steve, will you do ten push-ups so that Jason can have a donut?" Steve did ten push-ups very slowly and with great effort.
Jason, bewildered, was handed a donut and sat down.
Dr. Christianson finished the fourth row, and then started on those visitors seated by the heaters. Steve's arms were now shaking with each push-up in a struggle to lift himself against the force of gravity. By this time sweat was profusely dropping off of his face, there was no sound excepthis heavy breathing; there was not a dry eye in the room. The very last two students in the room were two young women, both cheerleaders, and very popular.
Dr. Christianson went to Linda, the second to last, and asked, "Linda, do you want a doughnut?"Linda said, very sadly, "No, thank you."
Professor Christianson quietly asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Linda can have a donut she doesn't want?"
Grunting from the effort, Steve did ten very slow push-ups for Linda. Then Dr Christianson turned to the last girl, Susan. "Susan, do you want a donut?"
Susan, with tears flowing down her face, began to cry. "Dr. Christianson, why can't I help him?"
Dr. Christianson, with tears of his own, said, "No, Steve has to do it alone, I have given him this task and he is in charge of seeing that everyone has an opportunity for a donut whether they want it or not.
When I decided to have a party this last day of class, I looked at my grade book. Steve here is the only student with a perfect grade. Everyone else has failed a test, skipped class, or offered me inferior work.
Steve told me that in football practice, when a player messes up he must do push-ups. I told Steve that none of you could come to my party unless he paid the price by doing your push ups. He and I made a deal for your sakes.""Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Susan can have a donut?"
As Steve very slowly finished his last push-up, with the understanding that he had accomplished all that was required of him, having done 350 push-ups, his arms buckled beneath him and he fell to the floor.
Dr. Christianson turned to the room and said. "And so it was, that our Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross, plead to the Father, 'into thy hands I commend my spirit.' With the understanding that He had done everything that was required of Him, He yielded up His life. And like some of thosein this room, many of us leave the gift on the desk, uneaten."
Two students helped Steve up off the floor and to a seat, physically exhausted, but wearing a thin smile. "Well done, good and faithful servant," said the professor, adding "Not all sermons are preached in words."
Turning to his class, the professor said, "My wish is that you might understand and fully comprehend all the riches of grace and mercy that have been given to you through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He spared not only His Begotten Son, but gave Him up for us all, for the whole Church, now and forever. Whether or not we choose to accept His gift to us, the price has been paid." "Wouldn't you be foolish and ungrateful to leave it lying on the desk?"Share this with someone. It's bound to touch their heart and demonstrate Salvation in a very special way.

amazing how fast it all goes past huh?

Bug Speaks!

Here goes my first attempt at a blog....
Don't you love when you decide how God is supposed to act in certain situations. When we build this...well, false idol, really, why should we be surprised when He doesn't fit in our box? And then we are left with our doubts, and in worse situations, our accusations. So this clearly is coming from a situation I'm dealing with. The answer: Count my blessings. Literally. I'm going to be at it awhile....
It's an interesting thing when people don't want to hear anything about the gospel. I was talking to one of my bosses yesterday and I asked him if the company made them tuck in their shirts. I had a feeling that they did because I had seen three supervisors standing together and I noticed they all had their [polo] shirts tucked in. So my boss told me that they made him tuck their shirts in, and when I asked why he told me they were supposed to be professional. I told him no offense, but they're the most unprofessional of the three shifts I've worked on. He asked why and I told him that there wasn't a supervisor I had seen that didn't cuss like a...well, you get the idea. So as we were talking he told me that the swear word he uses most is G-D. He said he likes using that one more than the F-bomb because to him, it's less offensive since he's not a believer. Of course the point isn't about the offense to him, but I didn't want to press him too hard on it. Now, admittedly, I don't do the greatest job of evangelism. It certainly doesn't come naturally to me. But here he is bringing up his unbelief. The hard part was done for me. So I asked him a couple generic questions to get started, and he really wasn't having any of it.
You have to wonder what he's been through that makes him shut down like that. It could be he lost his faith over a painful experience long ago. Maybe he was brought up atheist. Maybe he has been wronged by Christians. I've been in situations where this is the case. It's unfair. It's like people that say all men/women are evil because they had one or two bad relationships. People hold stuff against you because of something someone else did. Worse, they hold stuff against God. So what can we do? We need to make it clear that the point isn't what other people do, it's what Jesus did. It's not fair to judge a belief system by anything other than it's champion, and our champion is Jesus Christ. Second, let's not be stumbling blocks for people. Ever see Christians wield the truth like a lead pipe, beating people over the head with it? I have, and I used to be one. There is a "more excellent way", to make a paraphrase.
Another problem I have is that people associate Christianity with the Republican Party. You can see why in a lot of issues...abortion, gay marriage, etc. But Jesus was no politician. It seems he separated Himself from that whole thing. "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's"...He had more important things to deal with, and frankly, so do we. It's good to vote, but I do not want to be associated with a political party. I want to be associated with Christ. Incidentally, shouldn't we as believers be environmentalists? This is God's creation we're talking about. Who is the better party on that issue? Hopefully you see what I mean.
That's enough out of me...not too bad for a first-timer I hope.

Message Strikes Again!

Have I mentioned how much I love my page a day calendar? the verse one...it rocks.

Today:
Since God assured us, "I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you," we can boldly quote "God is there, ready to help; I'm fearless no matter waht. Who or what can get to me?" Hebrews 13:5-6 MSG

So when I'm sitting there looking at mockups of centerpieces, wondering if the cake tastes as good as it looks....wondering how on earth we are going to figure all of this out and pay for everything that needs to be paid for, live on our own, sell the house, afford this, find that....and essentially overwhelm the snot out of myself.....there's the deep calming breath..."Since God assured us I will never let you down, never walk off and leave you..." I can breathe....somehow it will work out...I just have to trust the timing.

My little sister got her first broken heart this week....I ached for her...but was reminded as I told her that timing is amazing.....that it's true.....God's never late, never early and pardon the reference to a wizard but it's like Gandalf said 'he arrives precisely when he intends to'

I guess we all have an inner three year old that wants the why, we want it now, and it had better be good! We can't possibly wait! We need it NOW!

Prayer

Today is the National Day of Prayer - a day when everyone remembers to set aside a few minutes and pray....John & Denny talked about how we have that opportunity 24/7/365....so why don't we take it?
A direct line of communication with the author and finisher of our faith, our creator - the one who wrote the owners manual....and we set it aside....we say "all we can do is pray."
That's GREAT! Prayer is very powerful.
My cousin's college roommate had a poster on her ceiling so that it was the first thing she saw when she got up in the morning. "Prayer should be our first resource, not our last resort."

In the devotional I'm reading, right now we're on prayer - the prayer of Daniel, the Lord's prayer - what it means, and just how we need to be praying, to invoke the power of God's name and to trust that what we ask in His name, under His will is DONE.

I'm not much on canned prayers - but when I was at St. Bonaventure, the prayer of St. Francis was drilled into us - and I really like the words:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

A good thought to keep....and of course, let me close with the words of our Lord, as He taught us:
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9"This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.[a]' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Matthew 6:5-13, NIV

yes. I got bored....or something....

so....I tried to discover things about myself...

You Are Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

You are kind, popular, and generous.

You tend to be successful at anything you try.

A social butterfly, you are great at entertaining a crowd.

You are most compatible with strawberry ice cream.

hmm...I'm detecting a theme with me and chocolate chips...

You Are a Chocolate Chip Cookie

Traditional and conservative, most people find you comforting.

You're friendly and easy to get to know. This makes you very popular - without even trying!

LOL....

You Are Chinese Food

Exotic yet ordinary.

People think they've had enough of you, but they're back for more in an hour.

Ok, ok ok...last one....for now...(and thank you Ernie for sharing this page with the finger test, lol)

Reeses Peanut Butter Cups

Very popular, one of you is not enough.

Verse of the Day Calendar Inspires Again!

"Now to him who can keep you on your feet, standing tall in his bright presence, fresh and celebrating - to our one God, our only Savior, through Jesus Christ, our Master, be glory, majesty, strength, and rule before all time, and now, and to the end of time." Jude 1:24-25 Message Version

So...as you know, we took Bug's car in and prayed hard....
Then we picked it up Saturday and learned that the whole problem had been a bad vaccume hose. How cool is our God???

Yesterday, we celebrated his mom's 60th birthday with stuffed shells and a hockey game...was fun....even though our beloved Sabres lost....rather tragic, but I'm sure we will get past it ;-)

and it's SUNNY in Buffalo on a Monday morning....
this has to be a good sign, right?

Oh yeah...and we picked out our wedding cake...it's very "us" unique :-D
and no...I wasn't able to confiscate his camera to get the pictures of everything (Christmas, Valentines, Weddings, and our adventure...)....he said he'd get to it later.....hopefully he means this week.....

Rainy Saturday All to Myself!

OK, so here it is Saturday, it's rainy, my roommate is in Greece for a couple of weeks traveling the trails Paul did (how freaking cool is that?? I hope she's taking a ton of pics and will let me share some)
Darryl has my car at work since his is at the shop hopefully being fixed so it no longer stalls at red lights...
so here I am....all alone with a computer, some thoughts and a ton of forced free time. (Sad when it has to be forced to use it....)

And really wishing that I had Bug's camera.... A) so I can share all these pics I keep promising; 2) so I can show off my handiwork! and d) I got "new" specs...
that was a trip....finally broke down and went to the eye doc.....I ask if I can keep my frames as I'm quite fond of them (I have a weirdly tiny head and adult sized frames don't fit...so I shopped forever and paid more than I wanted to for these, but they fit and they are cute so I wanna keep them dangit!) He tells me that it's possible....wise ehhhh....then he tells me that they have to be shipped out of NY, be put into a machine to trace the shape so the lenses can be cut (which is different from new frames how?) and then shipped back and there is a cost involved. So I'm thinking a few hundred and maybe I should pick new glasses...nope...$25. So I kept my little bronze frames....and now I can see again.
Dude....I didn't realize just how much my eyes had been compensating...I put my new eyes on and felt like I was walking on a platform....made me a little seasick but once my eyes realized "hey we don't have to work this hard!" it got much better and now I can see and my head doesn't ache, so that's gotta be something, right?

so I got up, brewed some creme brulee coffee, mopped the kitchen, vacuumed up what I didn't get a chance to do last weekend and put in a load of laundry. Later I intend to take a bath and give myself a manicure and pedicure....and wish I had a camera to share because I'm feeling mischievous and creative so my nails are probably going to come out fun.....

I'm also thinking that the saxophone needs to come out of the box today. Just before my surgery (Sept. and Kasey promises she's sending recovery pics for your laughing pleasure...but ya know....) I began playing again with the intention of switching from a vocalist to a saxophonist in our worship band....I haven't played a lot since high school (the heart issue that is no longer an issue (btw, did I ever share about that?) caused major problems trying to play so I didn't....it was sad)
but anyway, I started to play again and then I had to have my gall bladder out and well....playing a wood wind and having incisions in your abdomen do not go well together.....so I stopped again....but now I'm pretty much healed up with only the occasional pull from the scar tissue...so I think it's time to bring it out again....this should be fun.....anyone who has ever played a woodwind is shaking with laughter right now because they know how far gone my armature is...(and I'm not sure I spelled that right but for the non-musicians in the group it has to do with the muscles around my mouth that need to remain taught while I play and not allow air in to goof with the sound....doesn't take long for these muscles to relax and not hold as tight, which produces a whiny sound...hey you learned something!!)
but anyway....
playing should be rather interesting and aw shucks, I don't have blue tooth on any of these computers so there won't be any videos....;-)

well there's my "monster" post for a rainy Saturday....I think a bubble bath and a book sound good...right after some baked fries for breakfast (nope, I haven't changed) =Þ

May your day be blessed! May you hear God whispering your name in the wind, may you feel his hand on your face in the sun, may you see His working in everything you set your eyes upon today....May you be wrapped up in His arms like a perfcect down comforter and may your day be complete with JOY!

Yup!

Ever feel like life is a roller coaster? As I read a post about burning huts I thought to myself - yup. been there. ...and so has she....and I wondered why we go through the same fires over and over....and then I was reminded of what exactly the process of purifying gold is like...the gold is melted....then remelted...and again and again until all of the impurities float up and are skimmed away until it is pure and without spot....and God desires that for each of us...
I know I certainly wish there were an easier way....like a loofah and plenty of bath & body works bottles....and a hot bubble bath...yeah....that would be great....
but what would I learn? to be comfortable where I am rather than to strive to keep putting that foot forward.
We're taking Bug's car into the shop today....he just got this new job....and then comes the rain...but then I rejoiced....provision. Manna.
Amazing what God does...
and I'm ashamed to admit that most of the time I flat out miss it....
so here's to searching for the blessings.....

yup....
Tater, this gonna be a good day ;-)

You Are a Ring Finger

You are romantic, expressive, and hopeful. You see the best in everything.

You are very artistic, and you see the world as your canvas. You are also drawn to the written word.

Inventive and unique, you are often away in your own inner world.

Some Wonderful Thoughts

Hebrews 11:1:

NIV: Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see

Message: 1 -2The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on what we can't see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.

KJV: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

John 14:26:

NIV: But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Message: 25 -27"I'm telling you these things while I'm still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I'm leaving you well and whole. That's my parting gift to you. Peace. I don't leave you the way you're used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don't be upset. Don't be distraught.

KJV: But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Bible.com. Gotta love it....amazing how much clearer a verse becomes just by reading a couple of different translations.....God is just cool...now who will give me an Amen to that?

Frailty of Life

Friday afternoon as I walked to lunch there was a rather large commotion on the street - fire trucks, flashing lights and a bus....and then we saw the tarps being raised around the scene - a woman had been hit and killed.

The next day I was headed to do some shopping and meet bug for dinner and a movie and got a text from our friend Wendie...her uncle had been killed the night before in a freak motorcycle accident.

I started to pray for the families of these people - amazing how frail our lives can be - how we feel invincible and then in a heartbeat - we feel vulnerable and weak.....Thank God for his assurance....his blessed hope and salvation, so that we can walk through the dark days knowing that even if that bus is headed for us - we can say "It is well with my soul."

Five years ago, Phil Hassey played that song on his violin for my brother's funeral - and I can still hear him playing and what a great comfort it brought to my heart and still does this day. "When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say...It is WELL it is WELL WITH MY SOUL" (emphasis mine).

Amazing thoughts to hold onto....even in that "valley of death" we fear no evil.....

As I dragged myself from my warm bed to my freezing room this morning, I wanted nothing more than to go right back to sleep....but Monday waits for no woman! (and I've discovered that my bed gets proportionally warmer and more comfortable the closer it gets to being the time I need to get out of it.....)

So I grabbed my Bible and devotionals and set to work....and read of the amazing love and sacrifices that were made so that we could enter the promised land. I read a stern warning against neglecting the word of God and how fear and doubt kept the Israelites wandering - while Joshua and Caleb were ready to walk forward in faith and to claim their promises....they were held back by those who feared....
It encouraged me to keep stepping forward....to not let other people's fears and doubts stop me from claiming what is mine - to take hold of those promises and know that no matter what comes...It will be well with my soul.

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary:

Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet.I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...

Adventure!! Part I

Pics to come....

We started the day with a yellow rose, croissants and a cashmere green tea chai latte....I then blindfolded my dear fiance and we ventured out!

Our first stop was the ToyTown USA museum in East Aurora - but because it's on the Fisher Price grounds - no cameras were allowed....It was so much fun! We watched a video on the history of FP toys.....and I watched Bug light up as he remembered playing with said toys....plus they had a mini hockey hall of fame, which is always a plus!

After that it was lunch time....so we headed to the Roycroft Inn (which is part of the Roycroft Campus....which we'll talk about in a little bit). He had artichoke saffron soup, I started with the French Onion....next came a grilled vegetable ravioli for him and an open faced snow crab salad sandwich for me....and what adventure lunch out is complete without dessert? Creme brulee for both of us *drool*

After we had sufficiently stuffed ourselves, we toured the rest of the Roycroft Campus, which was just downright amazing - we saw an old style print shop, all sorts of fun antiques, pottery, art.....and Darryl even debated Michelangelo (yes, I got a picture).

The Roycroft Campus is part of this wonderful artisan's guild, so there are all these (way too expensive for us...) treasures, wine crates, library tables, cube chairs, even an African tongue drum! (yes he played it ;-) )

Next stop on our journey through historic East Aurora was Vidlers 5 & 10...how much fun!! It is a true old fashioned five and dime store...rather packed since it was Saturday but still a grand adventure!

We were next going to Emery Park for a hike but it was a bit chilly and we were starting to get a bit on the tired side....so we headed home and took a nap and watched a bit of the Sabres game before I headed home and him to bed...

It was a great day.....I can't wait to show you pictures! I love that he's interested in all of this stuff too...sure makes planning an adventure much easier!!

Thursday, March 29, 2007

thank you ernie!

yup. love the new blogger. wicked easy to put up a pic.....which has taken how long? sorry....lol
and thank you ernie for enlightening me.....

wonderful!!!

I have found the most wonderful invention next to my breadmaker!! Ready Rice/Rice Express!! this wonderful little package of rice that I put in my microwave, bag and all for 90 seconds and then I eat this wonderful mostly healthy hot rice dinner!!!
Oh I'm a happy woman!
and it comes in tons of flavors and it's great 'cause I can throw a few of these in my desk drawer for a late night or a no-money week!
I usually pack my lunch because (duh) I save so much more money that way....but sometimes I just have no time in the morning and I refuse to cut my devotional time short just to make lunch because I wanted ten [read 20] more minutes of sleep.....so toss one of these in my tote and I'm all set for a filling and healthy lunch! Uncle Ben's even has a no-salt brown rice and we all know how long brown rice takes. (although for all the other flavors I really prefer Rice-A-Roni's brand)

yup. the little things still excite me. and I ask...what's wrong with that :-)

Wednesday, March 28, 2007

We're going on an adventure!

I told Bug that my blindfold and I would pick him up mid-morning Saturday. He's so excited I can hear him grinning :-)

So, provided I remember to have him bring his camera and provided that I get him to upload said pictures from said camera....the post about the adventure should be coming shortly after the adventure!

He took me on a blindfolded date once...it was cool...had no clue where we were going and when he took the blindfold off we were at an art gallery, then to dinner at a little boutique type place and then off to a movie...I can't divulge any plans here since he might just decided that's the day to see what's new on our blog.....but I'm excited about it :-D

Tuesday, March 27, 2007

wait...WHAT????

today's mind boggler:
Why is it more expensive to do a simple wedding ourselves than to pay to have it all done?
I mean seriously!!
and get this.....it's more expensive to have a dry reception package than to have the one with the unlimited open bar package.....who was sleeping at the wheel with that one?
*grumble*
Wedding planning is supposed to be fun!!
although, it is rather cute watching Bug look at wedding websites and read the magazine articles with me :-) I love how involved he is! He even helped me pick out the girls' dresses!

so now that I've ranted.....

It's Tuesday.....and I have no fun picks of laundry or food to show because I have yet to invest in a digital camera....Bug's got one and the frugal side of me says to not get one since we'll be merging households in roughly 508 days....but then again.....nothing wrong with us each having one right? This is where it gets amusing...his dad will not buy anything without a full investigation into consumer reports....more to come when I announce to Darryl I've discovered the need to buy a digital camera.....

Monday, March 26, 2007

A "MUST" see!

So Darryl and I had date night Friday...and we decided to forgo our usual sit around going back and forth a la Jungle Book style "Whatcha wanna do?" "I dunno, What YOU wanna do?" and went to a movie.... Night at the Museum....HILARIOUS....there were points we nearly fell out of our chairs....so I highly recommend this movie...definitely family friendly....for the whole family!
so there's your PSA for the day.

The rest of the weekend went pretty well. We led worship at church on Sunday which I thought went smoothly....we went to lunch with an old high school friend of mine...that was awesome. It's rather amusing to me...I'm telling God I'm lonely and need new friends in this new city....and what does he do? Brings me all my "old" ones :-)
Turns out a handful of my closest high school buddies now live in Buffalo...how sweet is that? Now if I can convince the rest of them to move here my plan will be complete muhahahaha ;-)

Bug's doing great with the new job and has discovered that he rather enjoys running a cash register!

Thursday, March 22, 2007

:-)

So Bug's first day on the new job went well...he got to add security tags to luggage.
I got to play with a baby and she fell asleep in my arms....
it was a good day.
Which brings us to Thursday...which is an odd day...a stepping stone from hump day to Friday....and I'm hoping it flies by because I get to see Bug tonight which is a wonderful thing.
We were talking the other night about how 500 and change days seems long and short...short in the sense of finding the money to make it all happen and long in the sense of we can't wait to be married...I know all things in the appointed time....but ya know....this has been a long time coming, LOL.

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Hmmm.....

thank you Ernie :-)

My "what kind of dessert are you" result?

You're a...Triple Layer Cake
For you, baking is one of the building blocks of life. The sweet aroma of cookies baking. The delicious pleasure of frosting a cake. That first mouthwatering bite. The very thought of anything baking brightens your day. You bake for flavor, for family and friends, for the sheer joy of it. Quick, somebody fire up an oven

promises, promises....and then a brain spill

they promise that Spring officially hits tonight.
Tell it to my frozen fingers!! 24º! but...it's supposed to hit the 50-60 mark this weekend...maybe it will stay.
but anyway...to the good stuff!!!
So I've been reading John MacArthur's devotional Book Drawing Near and WOW it's amazing....
Darryl's always been a big fan of MacArthur....so I wasn't surprised when he recommended this for a devotional...he digs deep and really gets me thinking. Right now I'm studying my identity in Christ....which is kind of cool because right now in Be Confident I'm reading about how the angels are meant to serve us, to minister to us...and how Christ is higher than the angels and how our role plays into it all...I haven't gotten very deep into that aspect of it, but I'm looking forward to it.
Anyway....back to MacArthur - He's in Ephesians right now, and this morning I was reading about how there was a "down payment" put on us...a seal securing our inheritance....how cool is that?? I mean, we've all dealt in down payments in one way or another...we put in that security deposit and we know that we will get that good or service because we secured it....but for God to put his seal, his security deposit on ME....I'm blown away....God's got me twice, by creation and by redemption...how can I possibly not serve?

There are days when it's hard to be a Christian...I'm sure everyone can agree...and one day as I was struggling with a test, I was questioning myself....wouldn't it be easier to give up? and then it hit me like a soccer ball off Pele's foot.....I MADE THIS CHOICE. I wasn't forced into this life. I chose it. I know that this is the most excellent way....and as soon as that brilliant epiphany hit...I had another...DUH...You're not in this alone. Not only do you have a counselor to go to...you have an instruction manual and a direct line to the manufacturer....which made me think even more (I know...you can smell the smoke) I've got all this info....so why am I not perfect? Well...first it's impossible....but I still have to strive....and then I realized that it takes a special kind of lazy to not run that race...and then the conviction fell.....
Here I have it all laid out on a silver platter, my cake, icing, sprinkles and even the ice cream....and all I have to do is reach out and take it. His part was so huge....and mine so small...and yet...I'm the one that finds it hard?
This morning's verse on my calendar also appears in my email:
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

With a promise like that....how can I do anything but fall on my face and serve?

Monday, March 19, 2007

oh yeah did I mention.....

So....Bug goes to an interview on Wednesday. He walks in the door from the interview to a ringing phone....he got the job!! (Marshalls) They tell him they will do orientation in about a week...he gets a call...no, orientation will be Monday...so as I happily type this...he's getting oriented :-) God's cool!

tired....very tired.

Well. I survived the weekend. It was kind of an emotional roller coaster...Friday was heart wrenching, as expected....went to mom's....we cried, made scrapbook pages of pictures of Shawn, cried, watched a video his friend made of pictures of him, cried, ate stuff....and were mildly amused when Nana delivered the cake we ordered.....Nana ordered a white cake with white frosting and "We'll always love you, Shawn" in red with a heart on top....Giant made it yellow cake and took it upon themselves to add "Happy Birthday" ...so we had a good laugh out of that...but all-in-all, it was a very draining day....Bug gets major props though....I had dropped him off in Cuba so he could get some sleep (he worked 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. then we drove to Cuba...) so when I got home he just let me be then curled up with me and held me and made me eat....I love him so much...and I really have to hand it to him...I'm not the easiest to deal with when those days happen....
Saturday we vegetized for a while then decided to get some groceries.....wonderful Nathaniel shoveled us out so we could...then Giant is doing this giveaway....so we decide to see what we can get....so we end up with a free loaf of bread and half gallon of OJ....sweet, right? then the little trainee dude is wandering around the store handing out more certificates so we ended up with another free loaf of bread.....which we gave to Nathaniel 'cause I was all about making something in the bread maker....
we opt for whole grain pasta and super chunky mushroom sauce for dinner, stop for Chinese and head home....watch a movie (the Departed....great except for the VERY rough language) and crash on the couch/floor...then dad calls to say that the roads are clear if we'd like to come over for my postponed birthday party...so I wake the Bug up.....who is fighting a migraine....baby him some and we head out...after three layer chocolate fudge cake with death by chocolate ice cream and some quality time with dad and his sheep (BTW, I held their new lamb...two days old at the time...and melted. yeah I guess there's still a little country girl left in me....)...then we head home...and because we're old....we're up long enough for me to toss some ingredients in the bread maker and a load of laundry in the washer....we head for bed....at 9:30....we read long enough for the wash to cycle so I can toss it in the dryer.....and then we're out....sad right?
Sunday was relatively uneventful...I made potato pancakes for Bug for breakfast and cut my finger when he distracted me....then we headed to Angelica so I could have my mother/daughter birthday lunch (which rocked....my mom is so cute. we ordered lunch and then she says "so, how many days do we have because we have to decide if I can wear the dress I want to to the wedding") Bug hung with the little sis...we looked at some pics for the wedding video.....then the long. boring. tedious.....downright painful drive back....remember when you were 16 and you could drive for days without it bugging you? and now....anything over a 10 minute drive is annoying....lol....more so since I became a "city gal" and everything is 10 minutes away.....rather than 45.......lol....anyway....
that's the synopsis of my weekend....how was yours?

"hump day"

what a weird phrase. yeah, we're halfway through the week...but we're also busting our humps...so hmm...weird.
I used to write a column for my college newspaper (Et Cetera) called "Deep Thoughts on Shallow Subjects"
I once wrote about the origin of the cliche "the rule of thumb" and then I wrote one on complicated simplicity...how things as simple as pencils become complicated. yes.
quite deep....but I haven't had my coffee yet so there will be no deep thoughts :-)
I'm heading out to the boonies this weekend to be with my family...man I hate this week. but hopefully there will be some vegging involved and I might get some much needed rest.
man this is a boring post...aren't you glad you stopped by today?

whoa...

it was 44º in Buffalo at 6:15 this morning. How freaking cool is that? I'm hoping this means that spring has sprung and it can start drying out around here. Yep. that's right. I'm discussing the weather. Why? because once you become a "buffalonian," it becomes vital to know the weather....because it changes every five minutes. So one must know if they are taking the rain/sun/mud combo, wind/sleet/snow combo or the very rare sun/warmth combo.....we must dress in layers ....therefore we must know which layers to choose...it's an art form you know....

And Welcome To Monday!

Wow this daylight savings time change thingy is really not fun. trying to figure out what's been changed what hasn't and what must be done ...at 5:30 (which my poor body thinks is 4:30) and without the benefit of coffee...yeah that was an adventure...

So I had a great weekend and birthday....Darryl and I went to lunch and shopping and I got a new Veggie Tales DVD...and it came with an adorable hat and mask (picture to come if I can get one....) and Darryl gave me Grey's Anatomy Season Two...so I'm stoked about that!
Going down to see the fam this weekend....Friday's gonna be rough so if you could remember us in your prayers I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also at Benders: I got Frank Peretti's The Prophet (he's awesome) and Be Confident by Warren Weirsbe. If you've never read any of the "BE" books...I highly recomend you get your hands on some....He exposits one book of the Bible at a time and extracts the theme in a way that makes it clear how to apply it to daily life. I just finished Be Mature not too long ago...a study on James and spiritual maturity...this one is on Hebrews and living by faith and not sight...I'm pretty excited to get into it...I'll keep you posted through my ...posts as to how it's going and the wonderful insight I am gaining ;-)

I love my little brother!

Email from my adorable younger brother Nathaniel on turning 26:

Hey sis,
I was just wondering if you were planning to come down for your birthday this weekend, I realize you are leaving our demographic that we have shared for these last 5 years, and they are going to have to implement a new marketing strategy for you now, but over and over I hear that 26 is the COOLEST age to be, think about it, your digits add up to 8, they subtract to negative 4, and adding the two integers gives you positive 4, 26 minus 4 is 22, and they are total dorks who are 22 or less, and if you try to take the square root of 26, it becomes an irrational number, and we all know that means your aren't a square, ad you can not be fractionalized, and if you can't be fractionalized, you can not be properly quantified, meaning of course that you are unique and there is simply only one of you! WOE to to those who remain 25... we both should feel sorry for them, they are easily fractionalized and that simply will not do... Anyways, let me know if you're staying in the BIG CITY or coming back to cuba, I hope you have a great day

Love,
Nathaniel

Isn't he awesome? he made me feel much better about "getting old" lol....

I could contemplate the imortality of the crab....for those that remember Mr. Guildemyster or however the snot he spelled it.
Yes. I've come up with new and interesting "Jamiisms" suchs as "oh my bob"
so....Darryl and I are going to Tempo on Saturday and I am so excited...this place is amazing...great food, staff, atmosphere, food, view, food, and did I mention the creme brule???

meh...

it's a blah kind of day.
so why am I posting about it? because for some reason I think you care to know what's going on....
it's freezing cold, but that should shock no one....
I'm tired and my emotions are on a rollar coaster (no, not about not being 25 anymore, I think I'm over that...)
Next week marks 5 years since Shawn died....and everything feels so weird....and the tears come pretty easily....and things get to me quicker and I just want to hide under my bed with my teddy bear and wait for it all to be overwith....
I have a crazy few days in front of me....
IAAP dinner tonight....getting my car fixed (yay! hopefully it's not too expensive....) tomorrow, then Bible study and then Friday....the usual evening with Darryl and Saturday we're going back to that restaurant we went to for Valentines :-) that should be good fun. and if he emails me the pics...I'll post them.....lol...seems to be my issue in life...no one sends the pics they take, lol....if only that were my biggest issue right? ;-)

last week as a 25 year old

so...I hit 25...it was great...car insurance went down....I can rent a car without having to pay through the nose...and that year is winding down....
I had a good laugh about it this morning....my last week as a 25 year old? What the heck is that?
It's almost like I'm hanging up the very last remnants of my childhood....moving out of the mid-twenties....peeking around the corner at my late twenties...
what have I accomplished?
Well, I have a house...a great job...I'm marrying the most wonderful man alive who just happens to be my best friend. I've graduated college twice....I'm in a great church and being used in ministry....
that's a lot right? So why do I feel like this is just the beginning of an even more wild ride?
